Dry Needling
Dry Needling
Not a stand-alone intervention, but when used in combination with other indicated treatment modalities can help create an efficient and complete plan of care.
Dry Needling is also known as intramuscular stimulation (IMS) and trigger point dry needling (TDN). E-stim may also be used in combination with Dry Needling and is known as percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS). These are safe, effective and efficient treatments used to:
- Relax myofascial trigger points
- Restore normal muscle tones, muscle length, coordination, function and strength
- Improve Scar tissue mobility
- Athletic Recovery
- Improve neuromuscular function
- Neural regeneration
Dry needling involves insertion a “dry”, solid filament needle in a trigger point with the intended result in lasting muscle relaxation due to the release of shortened bands of muscle fibers for overactive (tight) muscles or the activation of under-active (weak) muscles.
